Courtney Wolf and Jacob Boresch are the champions of the 14th Annual Sheridan Lanes Junior Match Game Tournament held Sunday, May 3 at Sheridan Lanes. It is a scratch tournament that combines match play with a step-ladder finals to determine the champions. It’s a warm-up for high school kids for the Kenosha News tournament, which starts tomorrow night.
Courtney Wolf claimed the girls’ title by winning all 6 of her head-to-head matches and coming from the 2nd spot in the step-ladder finals. It was Wolf’s 2nd title; she won this tournament 2 years ago and finished second last year to her cousin, Liz Stanley.
In the first match of the finals, 4th seed Sabrina Bolyard edged 3rd seed Tori Hedges, 216-205. Bolyard was then eliminated by Wolf, 235-192. Wolf then met Maddie Strzelecki who averaged 221 and was the #1qualifier. Wolf took the title with a solid 256-156 victory. Wolf averaged 215 for the day.
10 girls competed. All 4 girls in the finals were members of their high school team. Courtney Wolf had the high game of 256. 4 girls averaged over 200.
In the boys’ finals, Kyle Peterson averaged 242 in qualifying and went 5-1 in match play to earn the top spot in the step-ladder finals. The 4th seed, Kyle Moore beat the 3rd seed, Riley Smith, 234-177. 2nd seed Jacob Boresch then eliminated Moore, 279-217 to earn the right to meet Peterson for the title. Boresch prevailed 222-181. Boresch averaged 232 for the day and his game of 279 was high for the tournament.
13 boys competed and 7 averaged over 200. Peterson had the high game in qualifying of 278.
